We have gone to the Gardner Village Witch Festival every October for the past three years, and it never ever disappoints. It is just a fantastic way to begin the Holiday season.
This year the weather was beautiful, the company was awesome...and my Deak decided to surprise us all by upping his walking game.
All in the name of a nasty petting zoo.
You See...there's this thing about having a darling little Ring Chromosome in Deak's body.
I love the ring, and would not change my experience in having had this boy with his ring for second...
but, man...the kid is getting HEAVY.
I so did not want to take him into the petting zoo.
My arm ached in the anticipation of lifting him up and down, over and over, so he could see each animal.
Ab pushed me to do it, "He will love it, Mom."
I begrudgingly obeyed.
We walked in, and I placed Deak in front of me to walk by holding onto my pinkie fingers.
I figured it would last a few seconds
Nope.
He did not want to STOP!
We did walk and touch every animal possible...
and I loved every single second.
Not so certain about the no-hands gig quite yet...but, getting there.
This is where I cried.
Happy little quiet tears of gratitude.
Thanking that awesome maker of mine for the opportunity I have to watch my little guy hold onto a fence like a big boy.
...All by himself...
(I'm serious...is she the most beautiful child ever?
I think so.
Inside and out.)
Thanks to my Ab's not-so gentle push to step out of my little "must do things that are easy with Deak" routine...
I got this...
It was stinky and nasty and required lots of hand sanitizer.
But, it was beautiful and amazing and full of joy.
...A reminder that this curly blond and blue-eyed boy is capable of not only moving his feet;
he is capable of moving that tough layer of stuff that can surround the hardest of hearts.
Mostly, my own.

How sweet is this post?!! The things we all take for granted on a daily basis.....what an amazing little boy! He has touched my heart and I am mostly a stranger! And....I have two very handsome little boys that I'd be more than happy to reserve for that beautiful daughter of yours! :) Congrats on this awesome moment....what an accomplishment! Happy Halloween!
YAY YAY YAY! Genius to take pictures! I don't have any pics of those moments and you'll be so glad you do! Go Deak!
I resonate with the extreme dislike of the petting zoo. Luckily for me my three girls would rather pass on it too! Abby doesn't want to touch anything that feels different or moves away too fast. She cringes from dogs. Gotta love the walking though. I never tire of seeing Abby come around the corner unaided. we didn't think walking was in the cards for her and her orthopedic doctor still shakes his head at why she can walk... motivation is amazing! I think that's why God gives us days like this to motivate us to keep working no matter how slow the progress seems :)
Go Deak go! He and Lily really are great together-animals are her FAVORITE thing. Mine, not so much. He's so stinkin cute! Abby's pretty great too :-)
LOVE IT!!! Go DEAK Go!!
You are amazing Jen. Love you!
I am just in tears after reading this post (it's why I waited). What an amazing day for you and him! Hell, everyone!
I've always wanted to go to the "Witch Fest" and I think next year it will be a must.
Can't wait for the day for that to happen with Em, and I really hope it will. Dr. Stotts says there's no reason she shouldn't be able to walk, but her PT has a differing opinion :/ Maybe she needs to spend some more time with her buddy Deakon who she so looks up to and admires :)
They say the sense of smell is the strongest trigger for memories. Just think...every time you smell farm animals, you'll think of this wonderful day! That's pretty awesome! I LOVE the pictures - all of them - but particularly the two at the end.
Way to go Deak! Amazing. Good for you Abby for giving your Mom that extra push. And yes, Jen, she is absolutely beautiful.
Love those last 2 pictures, so cute!
From Grandma Payne above.
Aww! So sweet! Two very beautiful children! And I also hate a petting zoo, they're just gross and hand sanitizer doesn't clean enough OFF for me!
